Satan’s Weapons: Distraction and Ridicule
Two of Satan’s most powerful weapons are distraction and ridicule.
When trying to preach the Gospel to someone, people who are under the influence of demonic forces may try to distract and ridicule the preacher.
They do this to keep you from getting saved, or if you are already saved, they try to keep you from sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
I cannot recall a single time in my entire life that someone preached the true Gospel to me. Now that I’m Christian, I look back and realize that there were times when people tried to share the Gospel with me. However, these attempts were always thwarted by others who hammered the person talking to me with shouts and insults.
Before I was Christian I would never get attacked like that. They would only demonize the Christian.
Now that I am Christian I know what these evangelists went through.
For example: In the early 2000s I worked on a catcher processor vessel on the Bering Sea out of Dutch Harbor, Alaska during the winter seasons. On occasion I would work with a guy named Kurt. When we weren’t too busy we would somehow get to talking about religion and the Bible.
But every time the topic came up Kurt always got attacked. Somebody would appear and accuse him of being something he wasn’t, or even a group of four or five people would get together and shout insults at him.
Satan’s tactics worked. Every time this happened we didn’t continue our discussion about religion or the Bible.
Kurt once told me that he had been studying to be a preacher, but something happened and he ended up on the boat. Once, after a particularly heavy bullying session he said “You see that Tom? That was a demonic attack.”
I didn’t quit get what he meant at the time. Now I can see where he was coming from.
When you attempt to share the Gospel with someone be on the lookout for distractions and ridicule. Satan will do anything to get the focus off of Christ, and onto him.
